NEWS: New Format Announced for the 2024 5Star Grand Prix

As we inch ever closer to Stardom’s premier annual tournament – the 5Star Grand Prix – several new details have emerged from THE CONVERSION press conference about a difference in structure to previous years, the first names locked in for the tournament, the block calendar and news on the broadcasting schedule!

Unlike prior years that have seen Stardom use the traditional two block round robin format, the 2024 iteration will see the company adopt the four block structure that New Japan have used in recent years. Each block (Red Stars A, Red Stars B, Blue Stars A and Blue Stars B) will have 7 competitors with the top two from each block advancing to a quarter-final. With 4 blocks of 7 giving us 28 competitors, the 2024 tournament is due to be the largest field on record, beating out the 2022 total of 26.

Aswell as this, Stardom also announced that every show from this year’s tournament will be broadcast live on Stardom World – aside from those that will air on PPV – and that most nights will alternate between the two red blocks on one night and the two blue blocks on the other.

The names confirmed for the tournament so far are as follows;

  • RED STARS A: Maika, Natsuko Tora, Hazuki, Natsupoi
  • RED STARS B: Mayu Iwatani, Tam Nakano, AZM, Momo Watanabe
  • BLUE STARS A: Saori Anou, Starlight Kid, Syuri, Xena
  • BLUE STARS B: Suzu Suzuki, Ami Sourei, Hanan, Saya Kamitani

The remaining names to round out each of the blocks will be announced in July.
